DAVID CAMPBELL
I grew up on the edge of a great Ocean where the Gulf Stream merges with the North Atlantic. It is deep, mysterious, soothing and restless. As an artist I am drawn to it, connected. My spirit inspired and renewed by her raw primordial beauty. It is my muse.
All of my work is handbuilt, each piece individually sculpted. I work through an intuitive process of addition and subtraction. Hands moving and modeling clay faster than my mind can conceive the object. They branch out like coral, cluster like shells and flow like fish. I create in a fluid, constant state of flux until the clay slowly dries and the sculpting draws to an end. My movements and the history of my marks on its surface now frozen in time like a petrified fossil.

Althea is the greek word meaning “to heal,” she is a radiant, interesting and delicate piece of orginal coastal art. Interesting from all angles with a richly textured coral base. Her fluttering and ruffled edges flowing from the smaller companion vase attaching to the body. Althea is a dramatic statement piece in any home.
