DAVID CAMPBELL
I grew up on the edge of a great Ocean where the Gulf Stream merges with the North Atlantic. It is deep, mysterious, soothing and restless. As an artist I am drawn to it, connected. My spirit inspired and renewed by her raw primordial beauty. It is my muse.
All of my work is handbuilt, each piece individually sculpted. I work through an intuitive process of addition and subtraction. Hands moving and modeling clay faster than my mind can conceive the object. They branch out like coral, cluster like shells and flow like fish. I create in a fluid, constant state of flux until the clay slowly dries and the sculpting draws to an end. My movements and the history of my marks on its surface now frozen in time like a petrified fossil.

Athena the greek goddess of wisdom and handicraft who posses beauty both inside and out. The nuanced shell textures compliment the Athena vase’s deep unfurled edge which casts a subtle shadow on her twisting form transitioning to a lovely and delicate spiral rose on the interior. She is a delicate handcrafted stoneware vessel with a free flowing form inspired by a Wabi-Sabi aesthetics.
